Charo y Lee

A natural, cultural approach

I based the look of Pío Pista on Cantinflas.

Pista can mean "clue" in Spanish.

I chose María Malinche's name to throw people off that she was a double agent, based of course on the Mexican legend.

Cocomoco is, of course, completely made up for laughs.

The episode takes a while to establish the characters and the basic plot, but eventually we get to San Juan, Puerto Rico and the Morro.

It is my understanding the the Morro was one of the inspirations behind Disneyland's Pirates of the Caribbean.

Pío Pista y María

In the first book I never showed María's face. I purposely kept her mysterious. With the second book I designed a look for María loosely based on Penelope Cruz.

Unlike the first book, all action takes place on Tenerife. Other than the name of the island itself, most everything else is completely made up. Therefore I have fewer resources for these episodes.
